1861 Civil War Wood Engraved Prints Fort Walker S C & Fort Monroe VA  Slaves
Great chance to bid on 2 original antique wood engraved prints from a  c.1861 newspaper.
There are 2 prints on one sheet of 17" x 12" paper.
The two prints are titled , "Landing Of United States Troops At Fort Walker, After The Bombardment, November 7th, 1861" and "Morning Mustering Of The 'Contrabands' At Fortress Monroe, On Their Way To Their Day's Work".  Fort Walker was located on Hilton Head Island, S. C. and Fort Monroe was in Virginia.  "Contrabands" were escaped slaves that worked for the Union Army.  The captions are interesting and the "Contrabands" print is decidedly racist.  The man, "George Christy" referred to was a famous "Black Face" performer in the early part of the 19th century.
Good antique condition with toning and some chipping at edges, as well as a small 1-1/2" tear. The Contraband side is a bit lighter than the other side--see photos.
These are remarkable pieces of African American, Civil War, Virginia, and South Carolina Lowcountry history.  Don't let it get away!

Large or heavy items many ship Parcel Post, UPS ground or FedEX Ground. We insure most items over . If we over estimate shipping by more than a few bucks, we will refund the difference to you. On the other hand if we under-estimate shipping, WE will pick up the difference.
In case of lost or stolen mail: We will give refund only AFTER we receive refund from post office. No exceptions!

About our items:
Most of our items are vintage or used...and may have signs of wear and age. We describe our items as best we can but we ask that you, the bidder ask all questions BEFORE you bid.
Our refund policy:
We DO NOT routinely give refunds. Ebay is an AUCTION site..not a retail store and we run only auctions on our ebay page, therefore if you are the high bidder when the auction closes, you have bought the item and as soon as payment is received you are the new owner.
Occasionally we have missed something with an item...in those cases we have always and will always, work with the lucky winner if you are nice. We do not put up with disrespectful people and will report any abuses to the ebay security center.
About your obligation to us:
PLEASE  follow through with full payment within 3 days of auction ending. After 3 days, if we have not received payment or contact from you, a non-paying report will be filed with ebay and item will be relisted.
About payment & shipping:
We take PAYPAL only. We ship on Tuesday & Thursdays only and try to ship within 48 hours of receiving payment. So if an auction ends on a Friday, we may not ship until the following Tuesday.
We ship most items with a delivery confirmation and will always have availaable a reciept that your item was shipped.
