    DISNEY'S EVAN K SHAW / AMERICAN POTTERY ALICE IN WONDERLAND 70 YRS OLD!
    For That Special Alice In Wonderland Collector
    You Are Bidding On A Beautiful Evan K. Shaw American Pottery Walt Disney’s 1950’s World Of Enchantment in Ceramics Alice In Wonderland In Very Good Condition! Just Look At Those Beautiful Blue Eyes!
    Around 1950, Evan K. Shaw released two beautiful ceramic sets and included them in a select retail promotion called, “Walt Disney’s World Of Enchantment In Ceramics.” The Alice In Wonderland set featured Alice, the Mad Hatter, March Hare, White Rabbit, Walrus, Dormouse, along with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Since each ceramic piece was individually hand painted, each piece displays unique features and expressions.
    Upon close examination, this 5 1/2” tall Alice has a few blemishes and rough areas but still displays exceptionally well. Alice does show normal visible crazing. There is one 1/8” rough area on the hem of her dress in the back and a slight 1/16” chip on the underside of her finger tips on her right hand that is not visible from the front. There a number of minute splatter spots that all seem to be under glaze and therefore occurred when manufactured.
    Her facial features and eyes are beautiful. Her expression of surprise and concern is evident. The colors are vibrant with little loss of paint. Alice no longer has her original Evan K. Shaw label. This rare Alice In Wonderland is now almost 70 YEARS OLD!
    This rare Alice In Wonderland is now almost 70 YEARS OLD! American Pottery was founded by Evan K. Shaw who was a former Vernon Kilns employee. During the period of 1943 through 1955, Evan K. Shaw created the largest ceramics outfit in the Los Angeles area under many different Company names and Disney Licenses including Metlox & The American Pottery Company. Evan K. Shaw's American Pottery signed its first contract with Disney on February 4, 1943.
    Shaw/American Pottery figures are known for their details, expressions and quality. Shaw/American Pottery had their own Mold Makers. The Disney Studios would provide model sheets to be followed for each design. Once Shaw/American Pottery came up with a new concept, it would have to be approved by the Disney Studio artists and the Disney licensing division before any production could begin.
    Marc Davis was one of Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men! He began his Disney career in 1935 as an animator on Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. He became so regarded For his work on female Characters that he was called A “Ladies Man”! Some of the characters he designed & animated are: Alice In Wonderland, Snow White, Faline & Flower from Bambi, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, Maleficent and Cruella de Vil
    Walt Disney once said of Marc Davis, “Marc can do story, he can do character, he can animate, he can design shows for me. All I have to do is tell him what I want and it’s there! He’s my Renaissance Man!"
