    Description

Up for sale is the huge antique lithograph, titled Review of the Mass. Volunteer Militia, At Concord, Sept. 9th, 1859. From an original painting by John Bachelder. My understanding, based on some brief research, is that this was an effort to show the strength of the North or Union's forces and to discourage the undercurrent of succession and war that was leading up to the 1860 election. This is a very important part of American History. It is marked Proof toward the bottom left. This is a huge print, the paper measures about 48" x 31 1/4. It is being held together by a plexiglass "frame" that measures about 52" x 36". This is unfortunately in very poor condition, it has many stains, large tears, and loss. I'm not sure that it makes sense to restore this, but it certainly is worthy of conservation. Due to its size and the complexity of keeping it from bending in transit, the shipping cost are going to quite large. Local pick up can be arranged.
