Description
Direct service to and from Hilo, Hawaii’s second largest city, was made possible by a common-fareplan among the airlines serving the state – three mainland carriers, United Airlines [Foreign Air Mail Route 30], Pan American [Foreign Air Mail Route
14] and Northwest Airlines [Foreign Air Mail Route 95] and two inter-island airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines.
This cover was
carried on the October 1, 1967
inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 30 flight from Hilo, Hawaii to Los Angeles, California
(where it was
backstamped
) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F30-14.
Bill Schneider, Jr., a noted air mail historian, prepared the cover.
